National Airborne Day - August 16, 1940
Honoring All Who Jumped So Others Could Stand Free
On August 16, 1940, the U.S. Army conducted its first official parachute jump — the birth of the American Airborne.
From that moment, paratroopers became a force like no other — soldiers trained to leap into the unknown, behind enemy lines, and turn the tide of battle where the fight was fiercest.
This legacy is not just about the jump.
It’s about courage, discipline, and the brotherhood forged in the skies.
From the 82nd and 101st Airborne charging into Normandy on D-Day,
To paratroopers dropping into Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan,
To today’s Airborne warriors who remain ready to deploy anywhere in the world at a moment’s notice —
They all share the same motto: “Airborne, All the Way.”
National Airborne Day honors the spirit of every Soldier who put faith in their training, trust in their team, and stepped out of the aircraft into history.
To the Paratroopers past, present, and future —
We remember you. We honor you.
We will never forget.
