D-Day - June 6, 1944
Honoring All Who Answered the Call
On June 6, 1944, Allied forces launched the largest amphibious invasion in history — Operation Overlord.
More than 156,000 troops crossed the English Channel to liberate Nazi-occupied France. It was a turning point in World War II, and the cost was high.
This mission was more than just a military operation.
It was a test of courage, unity, and sacrifice.
And every branch played a role.
Army infantry stormed the beaches under relentless fire.
Paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne jumped into darkness behind enemy lines.
Navy sailors delivered troops to shore and bombarded coastal defenses.
Air Force pilots cleared the skies and softened enemy strongholds.
Coast Guardsmen manned landing craft and rescued the wounded from the surf.
And though not yet formed, the spirit of future Guardians stood watch in the courage of every man who looked to the skies for hope.
D-Day wasn’t just a moment in time. It was a defining chapter in the legacy of freedom — written by brave men from every service branch, fighting side by side.
To those who landed, flew, sailed, and fell —
We remember you. We honor you.
We will never forget.
