D-Day - June 6, 1944

Honoring All Who Answered the Call

On June 6, 1944, Allied forces launched the largest amphibious invasion in history — Operation Overlord.

More than 156,000 troops crossed the English Channel to liberate Nazi-occupied France. It was a turning point in World War II, and the cost was high.

This mission was more than just a military operation.

It was a test of courage, unity, and sacrifice.

And every branch played a role.

  • Army infantry stormed the beaches under relentless fire.

  • Paratroopers of the 82nd and 101st Airborne jumped into darkness behind enemy lines.

  • Navy sailors delivered troops to shore and bombarded coastal defenses.

  • Air Force pilots cleared the skies and softened enemy strongholds.

  • Coast Guardsmen manned landing craft and rescued the wounded from the surf.

  • And though not yet formed, the spirit of future Guardians stood watch in the courage of every man who looked to the skies for hope.

D-Day wasn’t just a moment in time. It was a defining chapter in the legacy of freedom — written by brave men from every service branch, fighting side by side.

To those who landed, flew, sailed, and fell —

We remember you. We honor you.

We will never forget.
